Welcome From Dr. Scott
Dear Future Thinker,
I want to personally welcome you to Wake Tech’s new initiative, the Center for Strategic Futures. If you’ve found this website, it’s likely we’re of like mind and you want to be prepared for the future, whatever form it may take.
Yogi Berra has been quoted as saying, “the future ain’t what it used to be”, and I believe he’s right. Twenty or thirty years ago, who would have thought that our banking transactions would be conducted instantaneously, that events happening around the world could be followed as they happen with reporting by everyday people, that phones would be wireless, that purchases of goods and services could be accomplished without going to a store or engaging with a store employee, that employees might live in India and work remotely for US based companies without an office in the country, or any number of other advances that have become part of our everyday life? I guarantee you, someone was thinking about these possibilities and could see them coming years before the changes ever happened.
It’s with this in mind that Wake Tech has launched the Center for Strategic Futures through a generous sponsorship from SunTrust bank. The SunTrust Center for Strategic Futures at Wake Tech will provide a speakers forum hosting future thinking leaders at Wake Tech for the exchange of ideas related to the nature of education, workforce development, and economic development. The Center’s goal is to create a culture of future thinking students, staff, faculty at Wake Tech engaged with future thinking businesses and workforce and economic development communities.
The future will require new ways of doing business, new ways of learning, and new ways of organizing. What will it look for? We’re not sure, but we want to begin a journey of thinking about it.
I invite you to join us in this journey of looking to the future! Our Second event " Web 2.0 For the Future" is January 27, 2010. If you plan to join us, please RSVP to LaToya Christopher by clicking HERE or by calling 919-866-5114.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephen C. Scott
